Frisco, Texas-based Argon Medical Devices Inc. has acquired injection and prototype mold manufacturer Matrex Mold and Tool Inc. of Portage, Wis.

"Our strategy to vertically integrate our manufacturing within the United States was vital to our growth throughout the pandemic as it allowed us to keep supplying our products despite widespread material shortages and transportation delays," George Leondis, president and CEO of Argon, said in a Dec. 14 news release.

Argon makes medical devices for interventional procedures and was a customer of Matrex for more than 25 years before the acquisition, the release said. It plans to keep Matrex located in its Portage facility.

Matrex has standard injection mold tooling, prototype tooling and makes tooling for micromolding.

"Matrex has been a reliable partner of ours for years," Leondis said. "Adding their capabilities to our operations allows us to be even more dependable for our customers in these unprecedented times."

Argon did not immediately respond to requests by Plastics News for further comment.

"We are excited to join Argon and support the company's mission to improve the lives of patients and caregivers through manufacturing and delivery of … medical devices," Matrex President John Matson said in the release.

Being able to produce prototype molds will decrease the time to market for new products in development at Argon, the release said.

Argon manufactures and sells disposable medical devices for interventional radiology, interventional oncology and vascular surgery procedures.
